Air Vice Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan Appointed as Chief of BAF, Promoted to Air Marshal

The Government of Bangladesh has recently appointed Air Vice Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan as the new Chief of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF), elevating him to the rank of Air Marshal. This decision was made to succeed Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan, with the official transition scheduled to take place on June 11, 2024. The announcement was made through a notification issued by the Defence Ministry on a Sunday.

Air Vice Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, who currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Planning), will be stepping into his new role as the Chief of Air Staff for a three-year term. He will be promoted to the rank of Air Marshal effective from the afternoon of June 11, 2024. This promotion marks a significant milestone in his distinguished military career.

The outgoing Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan, is set to retire on the same day as the transition to the new leadership. Another notification from the Defence Ministry confirmed this retirement plan, indicating a smooth handover of responsibilities within the BAF.

Hasan Mahmood Khan's professional experience includes serving as the Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bangabandhu and as the Officer Commanding of Airmen Training Institute during his tenure. Additionally, he held the position of Bangladesh Air Force Plans Director while holding the rank of Air Commodore.

Noteworthy achievements in his career include overseeing two vital bilateral defense programs, namely the Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2022 with the Australian Defence Force and Exercise Cope South-2022 with the US Pacific Air Force. These experiences have undoubtedly prepared Air Vice Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan for the responsibilities that lie ahead as he assumes the role of Chief of the Bangladesh Air Force.
